#PTcamp week 1

What a wonderful way to spend the summer (no matter where we are) chatting to others in this professional arena.
Listening to Vox messages is challenging for a visual learner however I love hearing the voices and accents of fellow participants around the world.
The challenge of being an itinerant teacher in my district (next year in three schools): I only have history in one building. I would rate that building as a Come-if-we-call School - moving towards Open-Door school. As our leadership changed three years ago, she is working vigilantly with teams of teachers and parents to move a new vision forward.

As the ELL teacher - constantly aware of barriers that our school process presents to our families -the true partnership school seems a bit elusive at this point - but I'm eager to learn through this #PTcamp - how to make real connections and build sustainability with the things that currently work.

2016 One Word: Intentional

I returned this past Saturday after spending one week in Taiwan and experienced two of the most emotionally difficult days of my adult life, as well as spending Christmas on a 14.5 hour flight and New Years in a hotel room with my son sleeping beside me. #1: Meeting my new son (Edward- aged 12), sitting in court and committing to be his legal guardian and then having to say goodbye for two or so more months before he joins our family. #2: Then visiting a women's prison a mere 15 minutes away from our hotel with my middle son to see his birth mother. Watching tears stream down first her face, and then his - and having to leave that tiny bleak room, knowing that he may never see her again. It wasn't until Sunday morning when we were taking down our Christmas tree, when my eldest adopted son (James-now aged 18) responded to my almost rhetorical question with a nugget of wisdom I needed to hear again. Anchor down!/ "Anchors away"?

THERE COMES A TIME in everyone's life - heck sometimes daily when we make this decision. Almost like "flight or fight?" except I like to name it Anchor down/Anchors away? I came to terms with a lot of identity issues for myself this past year (as it was my 40th year).
